Fire destroys billion of
dollars worth of mobile heavy equipment every year. Some
ever present dangers include (1) abrasion against a high pressure
hydraulic line causes a pin-hole and leaks atomised hydraulic fluid onto a
hot manifold (2) coal dust ignites from a metal spark (3) a short occurs
in one of the machine's electrical cables, setting the cable insulator on
fire or (4) a wire harness near the battery shorts against the vehicle's
chassis, melts, then ignites.
MSS Vehicle Fire
Suppression Systems are designed to warn the operator and suppress the
fire in its earliest stages, before it become fully established and
spreads into highly combustible areas.
